Finding My Zen at Myella Farmstay
Wanting to get away from all the beach towns for a change, Myella Farm was a great option because it´s only a short (1.5 hours) drive from Rockhampton. I kind of had an idea what to expect as I had driven past farms on my way down the coast. Myella was a real treat though.
Aside from the classic farm chores I got to partake in, there was also a baby kangaroo and a baby possum as well as two baby cows we had to bottle feed. I gathered eggs from the chickens while they climbed my back, milked the cows to make ricotta from fresh milk and rode Stan and Abba to check on the cattle and the fences around the property. I even moved a small herd of Heifer cows (females which haven´t had babies yet). It was a lot of work as they kept separating and wondering off but it felt very rewarding once done.
I really learned to take it slow here. Although there is so much that needs to be done, it is all done in its own pace – there are no deadlines or goals other than getting it done before sunset. So why not enjoy what you´re doing?!
