Normandie Mon Amour

Normandie Mon Amour

On the trails of Van Gogh, Monet, Courbet and just generally in what feels like the nicer Germany. Landscapes similar but more natural, towns similar but more taken care of, people equally to themselves, the weather equally unreliable even though it was August. But the food… oh the food. If you like cheese, meat and baked goods the north of France is your place to be.

Étretat is possibly one of the more famous seasides in France thanks to the painting of Courbet. I loved the stoney beach and the views from the pathway up the rocks. It allows you to watch the people walking on the beach, like little ants. I loved and hated that we went from sunshine to a heavy rain because it gave an incredible show on the horizon – hard to photograph of course.

One night in Le Chateau Bonnemare… A time travel, non stop exploring and just being completely baffled by how old and intact a place can be. This place is ideal for weddings with its own little chapel, vast gardens and beautiful surroundings. It is a bit creepy to go to sleep and have four people in different paintings stare at you. So maybe for your stay you want to opt for one of the more basic cottage rooms. I know I will next time.
